SHEIKH BILAL KHAN
Sheikh Bilal Khan is a leading figure in the global Islamic finance industry and the recipient of multiple industry awards including the first Islamic Scholar to be recognized as a Freeman of the City of London. He is both an English qualified lawyer from a ‘Magic Circle’ law firm and a respected Shari'ah Scholar. He has almost two decades of Shari'ah law experience and specialises in structuring and drafting first-of-their-kind Shariah-compliant financial products in the medium of English, Arabic and Urdu.
In his government business ambassadorial role as UKTI Catalyst, Sheikh Bilal is promoting UK excellence internationally and the City of London in particular as a leading Islamic Finance hub. He is a Special Adviser on the Middle East Association Board, working in close collaboration with the UKTI, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and The City of London Corporation and has been part of trade and diplomatic missions to strengthen strategic relationships with the Islamic emerging markets. Sheikh Bilal is also Vice Chairman of the International Panel of Mosaic (Prince of Wales Trust) and a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers.
Sheikh Bilal was awarded ‘Religious Advocate of the Year’ at the prestigious British Muslim Awards 2013; 'Oxford Visiting Fellow of Islamic Finance' by the Securities Commission Malaysia 2012-13; ‘Young Takaful Scholar of the Year’ at the 2012 International Takaful Summit and ‘Zaki Badawi Shari’ah Scholar of the Year’ at the 2011 London Sukuk Summit. He frequently chairs and speaks at international conferences and is regularly contributing to industry journals and publications as well as being quoted in the mainstream media.
